History
At Dive HQ Rotorua, we are proud of our history, which goes back to 1968 when owner John first discovered the magic of the underwater world. John became one of New Zealand's first PADI instructors, recognising the importance of a quality international diving qualification as a pre-requisite for safe dive training.
John first taught at the Rotorua Blue Baths, where training was delivered in the deep pool. The Rotorua Underwater Club of the time was extremely active and divers were out there doing it every weekend, and the social scene was just about as busy, with Shipwreck and BBQ functions regularly held at places like the Hamurana Lodge, now sadly in disrepair. Later monthly meetings saw the Rotorua Race Course lounge full to overflowing.
John has seen amazing development through the years of dive equipment, through from the blue Cressi rondine fins and orange Fenzy BCD to computerised gauges and the most amazing split fins which are scientifically proven to propel the diver through the water with less stress on leg muscles.
John continues to develop his diving business, and you will now find us in our new bright airy premises, where you will find a great array of dive gear and other goodies for in, on and under the water, including Mission and Viking kayaks.
